Destin for more Destin

5:00 this morning came and went, and I was happily resting, secure in my knowledge that my anchor wasn't going to drag. See, properly setting an anchor isn't always as simple of a task as you might think. Many many experienced sailors have been known to drag anchor and end up colliding with either another boat, or the shore. It's nothing to take lightly, and I'd made sure that I was securely dug in...the last thing you want to do in the middle of the night is wake up to a loud crashing sound, right?
Ok, so I finally got up rather late...around 9:30ish & knew that the trip to Panama City just wasn't going to happen today. I woke up good & then put on my snorkeling gear and decided I'd swim to the jetties at the pass. The jetties are where all the snorkeling tour boats dump off their folks & let them swim around. I learned something though...If I plan on swimming to a beach or something, I needed to anchor a little closer to it next time. Like I said earlier...I was anchored just off of the dock at Harry T's, which just so happens to be about 800 yards from the beach that I needed to swim to to walk around to the jetties. Now, I've never really been known for my mad swimming skills, and this was quite a hike for such an out of shape fat guy. Anyway, I made it to the beach and then walked the next 800 yards to the jetty, & man was it worth it. The schools of fish & marine life were amazing...it was so cool to watch these things move around. I mean, some of those schools of little fish probably numbered 20,000, and they all moved so synchronized...it was neat.
After that, I made the trek back to the boat and was ready for a nap. Around 6, I got up and dinked (took the dinghy) into town. It was about this point that I realized that my back was pretty good and sunburned from the snorkeling...great...exactly where I can't reach with the aloe. I wandered the harborwalk for a while, then plopped down at the Harry T's again. They had a guy singing & all, and it was pretty cool. Before long, I got to talking with some people & found a guy fron Newnan. We had some mutual friends, and we talked about that for a while. He was a pretty big Auburn fan, though. I got to talking with him about my trip & noticed this girl listening to us. She got her drink and went back over to her friends. Well after a while she came walking back by, and Rusty grabbed her arm & said "Hey...you wanted to talk to him (pointing to me) about his boat, right?" Um, where did that come from? He completely caught me by surprise, but it seemed to work & we ended up talking for a while. Don't know where Rusty went, but thanks man.
After a while, they all went inside to do some dancing. I'm not all about dancing the boogy, so I did my best & tried to stay out of the way. Now that I think about it...I'm not much for any type of dancing that involves more than wobbling back and forth, or moving faster than a manatee. Anyway, so they left, & before I got back to the boat good, she had called me wondering what I was doing tomorrow. So, it seems that her and her friends are going to meet me sometime tomorrow when I get to Panama City. Craziness. She kept saying, “I've never known a real sailor before”. Um...I'm not sure what it takes to qualify for the 'real sailor' title, but I think I could get used to this whole thing!
