Time's a flyin'
Sunday, March 14, 2004

Can you believe it? It's been over a month since we moved the boat down here. Time has absoluetly flown by! I know what ya'll are thinking...it seems like it's been nearly a month since I last wrote. Ok, Ok...well, grab a cup of coffee because I've been saving up.

Let's see...we last spoke on Monday. That makes Tuesday a pretty logical place to start, right? Tuesday I planned on finishing up the lazy jacks and possibly going sailing. Well Heidi hadn't called me yet, so sailing with them was out. Not to mention the wind was absolutely howling, and I would have been reluctant to take them out anyway...I know that I would have enjoyed it, but it would have been a little much if they weren't used to the heeling (heeling= the way a sailboat leans over in high wind. fyi, no matter how much it looks like it's going to flip, I promise it's not). At coffee Mark asked me if I wanted to ride up to Foley with him because he had to run a few errands. Being the college student I am, how could I possibly deny the roadtrip? We stopped by a nice marine store that seems to be much better priced and stocked than West Marine, so I think I'll be going there some more. We ended up at LuLu's around lunch. LuLu's is a resturant that just opened up along the Intercoastal Waterway in Gulf Shores. Lulu is Jimmy Buffett's sister, so you can imagine that this place doesn't really have much trouble doing the business down here.

After the morning jaunt, I got back and tried to get some boatwork done, but I mostly ended up hanging around the dockstore. I've gotten to be pretty good friends with the guys who operate the Parasail boat. The deckhand just graduated from high school and is from Fairhope. His name is Jonathan & there's a story coming up momentarily. Mid-afternoon I went out on the dolphin cruise with Capt. Richie...he's the guy I've been talking about possibly working for. It was a pretty good trip, and it certainly wasn't hard to find tons of dolphin. Heidi called me late afternoon & invited me to dinner. Her mom cooked some amazing steak and shrimp, and I had a pretty good time hanging out with them. I hate that I didn't end up getting to see them again before they left. Oh well.

Interesting job note...I told you about the possibility of working at the boat rental place, right? Well, as it turns out, Sean Wallace owns the rental company. Sean also owns a television production company. Craziness, isn't it? I haven't seen any of the work that he's done, but he seems to be a real mover...He's got a pilot in at the Travel Channel, he's about to go to Haiti for a shoot for the Discovery Channel, and he just landed a national commercial spot for Swanson Foods. Needless to say, I've been talking to him about doing stuff with him in that area. Who knows what'll end up happening, but I think I'm going to go on a shoot with him next Monday.

Ok, so I really haven't talked about any ladies since I've been here. I debated on whether or not I wanted to tell this story, but after talking with Anna Catherine, I decided I probably should. (Apparently Anna and Mr. John Minesinger had begun questioning my sexuality and threatened to rename my site to "sailinghomo". Thanks sis.) Well, about a week ago, we'll say last Sunday, a 24' Monteray powerboat came in and said they were staying for about a week. This powerboat housed a family that included two cute young girls. Of couse, around here, that caused quite a buzz...mostly about how they were probably 15 years old. One night they came in the resturant pretty late, so Jesse & I started making conversation & whatever. Turns out they were both 18 on their senior spring break from Houston. That's cool, ya know...and they are pretty cute...18 isn't too young, right? I mean, my cutoff is 3 years younger than I...(in other words, if they're my sister's age, they're too young!) Ok, so I filed that away. Come Wednesday morning, Sean was out shooting a commercial for his boat rental thing and needed some 'talent'. I was helping him out as a production assistant, so I grabbed them to see if they wanted in the commercial. Jonathan was in on the commercial thing too, and when he heard that they were 18, he was all over it. Somehow, I ended up asking them if we could take them to dinner that night. They were pretty excited, and honestly, so were we. Whoo Hoo...right? Nah. Turns out that according to their momma, they were both barely 16. Talk about a serious kick in the shin. To my defense, I promise you that one of them looked a lot older than that. Seriously! I promise...really! Anyway, luckily they ended up having to go to Destin, so I didn't have to follow through with the dinner thing...I'm not all about paying for a 16 year old's dinner, sorry. Oh yea...before we found that out from their mom, I went to check my mail in the dockstore and found 1 letter-- a half-folded piece of paper that had "Check Their ID" handwritten on it. funny people, funny.

I didn't end up doing the Survivor thing with Mark & Patti on Gabriel because Ms. Patti was all laid up with kidney stones...That can't be any fun at all. Thankfully she's all better now...I talked to her for a while this morning. Apparently their computer's messed up, so she said she'd make me dinner if I came over and tried to fix it. Sounds great to me! Also, she said that Mark has made a list of things he wants to make sure I have before I take off...They've been hugely helpful when it comes to outfitting my boat and teaching me things about the places I'll be visiting.

Let's see...that about covers the majority of the last week of my life. I've spent all weekend slaving at the resturant and look forward to 3 days away. I hope to get out on the water at least once this week and check out some of the places that everybody's been telling me about. Anyway, I want to say again thank ya'll for hanging around a keeping up with me. I had absolutely no clue that this many people would end up following the site, and I hope to keep everybody pretty entertained. Do know, however, that I don't plan on selling out...despite the mounting pressure, I'm not going to start lying to ya'll people just for the ratings :)...you can be assured that everything I tell ya is the truth, even if it is boring at times! Thanks, ya'll...seriously.
