The Big Day
Wednesday, February 25, 2004
Alrighty...the much anticipated Wednesday finally arrived. And I'll have to say, it didn't end up being too terribly disappointing. After my morning shower I stopped by the dock store and caught up on all the marina gossip over a cup of coffee. Maybe one of these day's I'll learn to like coffee. eh.
I made it to the Flora-Bama for my interview around 11, and it went pretty well. They told me they'd let me know something by (you guessed it...) next Wednesday. I should have known. When I got back to the marina, it was pouring down rain, so I called MediaCom and told them to just wait until a better day to install the internet. We've rescheduled for Saturday morning. Can you believe it? I cancelled on the cable guy. I found it humorously ironic until I remembered that it was me who was still without the internet. stupid.
The seats of my cabin are about as soaked as I think they can get, so as far as I'm concerned, bring on the rain. I've got a few dry clothes since I did the laundry last night , so I'm good to go. Anyway, I hung out with Jason the dockmaster and Chris the dockhand at the dock store until it was time to meet with the manager at The Back Porch. I met with him for a little while, and before I knew it I was in uniform bussing tables. Yup, hear that dad? I've got a source of income, however small it may be. My hourly wage tops out at a whopping $3.50. On top of that, however, I do get a percentage of the evening's earnings, so that works out pretty well...and the people I'm working with seem to be pretty cool, so that's good. Actually, it was kinda funny because Lara (a bartender) walked in and saw me and looked at the manager and said "You hired 'chowder boy'!!" It seems as though that's what I'm going to be called for a while. It comes from all the times in the past week that I've ordered nothing but a bowl of chowder and some water. What can I say...it's the only way to get out of that place with any money left in my pocket. Luckily now I get a pretty good meal discount.
Well...I need to run, the wind's picking up and it's tossing the boat around enough to make it a little tough to type well. That, and I'm hearing a new noise from above, so I think I'm going to have to put on my slickers and try to see what's causing it. Oh...remind me later to tell you something cool I learned about Mr. Freeman this morning. Later.
